The reasons for migration and refugee flows are often complex, but the main reasons are violations of human rights, military conflict, and the violence of poverty. This booklet, starting from the Judaeo-Christian tradition, offers a prophetic vision of refugees issues at the start of a new millenium. Drawing on the practical experience of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) and others, the authors urge policymakers and individuals, to build a culture of 'welcome for the stranger' rather than allowing a 'culture of disbelief or suspicion' to become the hallmark of our response.
